Mission: Episode 1: A New Sheriff in Town
Location: Various
Timeline: O600 Next Day

~Deck 8 Quarters~

The night seemed to have gone by rather quickly as Yesrin woke, stretched, threw back the covers then sat on the edge of the bed for a few minutes attempting to force the rest of the sleepiness from her body. Rising she made her way into the bathroom to take care of her personal needs then dressed in a crisp clean uniform for the day. Looking in the mirror she brushed out her still damp hair before placing it in her usual duty ponytail.

Walking into the living area Yesrin grabbed a scone and a cup of black coffee from the replicator before sitting at her desk. Sipping her delightful morning beverage she accessed the computer bringing up the schematic of the Base then sending it to her duty PaDD. Nibbling on her scone she looked over the Bases’ layout fixing in her mind where her Office was as well as the Central Docking Bay; that being the place she wanted to start. After breakfast was finished she tidied up, slipped her duty PaDD into her right thigh pocket as was her custom, secured her quarters before heading to the nearest Lift “Computer Central Docking Bay” came the request.

~Central Docking Bay~

Exiting the Lift Yesrin saw her office to the right but what intrigued her the most was what lie ahead; she would see her office shortly. Walking straight ahead was the Achilles in all her glory…not what one would classify as a large or even a medium sized ship….but a decent size for a small crew; and from what Captain Hawk had shared a very fast, well armed, agile, and very capable vessel.

Walking over Yesrin noticed the ship sitting on the deck utilizing it’s landing struts and rested in place with two large clamp receptors, one on each side of the ship, holding the docking clamps to keep the Achilles solidly in place. Running off the port side was the umbilical attached to large receptacle providing power to keep ship’s systems on standby should the ship need to be put into immediate service.

Taking a leisurely walk around the ship she noticed how clean and uniform the hull plating looked. Upon further investigation Yesrin could tell some of the plating had been replaced but blended well with the existing material; something only a trained eye would pickup on. Running her hand along a small portion of the hull she could tell extra amounts of ablative armor had been applied for protection to the outside of the Achilles. Seeing a shadow cast on the deck she looked up over her head to see the gangway going from the upper level to the entrance on the port side.

For several minutes Yesrin just stood admiring the Achilles looking forward to the time when she would be at Helm piloting this small wonder. While certainly much larger than the Freighters she’d had piloted as a youth, the Achilles was definitely smaller than the ships he had piloted since joining Star Fleet; which wasn’t a bad thing. Also Yesrin was excited about experiencing this Protowarp Drive; this would be a whole new experience for her observing as the computer navigated the ship.

Now it was time to get back to the mundane part of her duties….checking out her office and checking for any reports that might need her attention. Making her way back to the lift area she keyed in her security code and entered “Computer lights” as the office was illuminated. Looking around it was pretty much your standard Star Fleet office with a desk, one chair behind and two chairs in front. The desk had a sleek rounded design with double screens on top for accessing whatever she would need for her daily routines. To the right was a replicator and beyond that a few shelves for displaying whatever struck her fancy; although that wasn’t any sort of priority at the moment since she didn’t plan on spending anymore time in here that was absolutely necessary. To the far left was a round table and about a half dozen chairs around it; this is where she would meet with her pilots.

Grabbing a black coffee from the replicator she sat, after taking a few sips, then keyed in her security code activating the screens. Checking there didn’t seem to be anything that required her attention which would of course change as time progressed.

Next she brought up the Pilots list as she sat back reading through each one of the six pilots assigned to the Station…..looking over their duty files to check on their piloting hours as well as the classes of ships and/or the types of support crafts each one was cleared to pilot. To her delight everyone of her people, three men and three women, were cleared for everything including the Achilles which was a good thing if Yesrin was unable to be at Helm for some reason.

After finishing her coffee she grabbed her duty PaDD from her right thigh pocket then brought up her ‘to do list’. Yesrin scheduled a staff meeting for tomorrow at zero ten hundred not only to introduce herself but also wanting to get to know her people firsthand; this was sent to all her staff. Like with any new department head, she wanted to put any uneasiness to rest concerning herself with her staff.

While she had her ‘to do list’ open she made herself a notation “Sickbay…..boarding physical.” Not one of her favorite things in the universe but it was necessary according to Star Fleet Regs.

Now that her office work was finished for the time being, Yesrin brought up the same schematic Captain Hawk had in Ops. Looking it over she found Docking Ring 1B which housed the USS Denali; an Arrow Class Runabout….that was as good a place as any to start checking out the support craft.

~Docking Ring 1B~

Making her way to the desired location, Yesrin walked into the Docking Bay noticing an open Lift taking her to the Ventral Hatch up to the inside of the Runabout; moments later she was inside.

The cockpit had four stations but required a Crew of at least one with the standard being four to occupy each one of the stations. Taking the Pilot’s seat, fore left, Yesrin brought the Runabout online to check it’s systems. Bringing up each system she thoroughly looked each one over looking for any potential problems wanting to keep this little ship at the ready at all times.

Satisfied with all the readouts, there was one more thing she wanted to check “Computer run a level three diagnostic” Yesrin requested knowing a level one or two would take too long a time to complete.

“Level three diagnostic initiated…..time fifteen minutes” the Computer answered.

Rising from the pilot’s seat she made her way aft just to see what this small craft had aboard. To her surprise behind the cockpit was a meeting/lounging/bathroom area; the lounge being complete with a replicator. Walking far aft there was the cargo area and a basic small Med Bay/Science area.

Hearing the Computer Yesrin walked back to the cockpit “Level three diagnostic complete…..all systems meet or exceed Star Fleet protocols” the Computer stated.

“Good. What’s the Runabouts percent of efficiency” she inquired.

“Runabouts efficiency is at ninety eight point five” came the reply.

Sitting back down in the Pilot’s seat “Can’t argue with that” Yesrin stated out loud quite pleased with the level three diagnostic’s results.

After sitting a few more minutes looking around the cockpit, Yesrin shut down the Denali then exited the craft ready to head to her next victim….the Kilimanjaro.
