Personality & Traits

General Overview Dorian Vox was the son of two Diplomats, both of whom had helped to serve the interests of Trill within the Federation Diplomatic Corp. Growing up, Dorian’s parents pushed him towards the diplomatic corp like they were. However, Dorian was more interested in becoming either a scientist or doctor over anything else.

Once graduating from secondary school, Dorian went off to Starfleet Academy and studied medicine, much to the dismay of his parents. However, once they saw how he was excelling within the Academy, they were happy for him and quietly, but quickly changed their tune.

Dorian graduated from the Academy at 22 before going through 3 additional years of medical residency training at Starfleet Medical. After graduation, Dorian went back to his homeworld to go through the symbiant initiate training. He knew that there was a chance of rejection, both medically and from the panel. However, through some work with the commission and with the help of Starfleet Medical, Dorian was accepted into the program and was able to join with the Vox symbiant after his training.

Instead, he’s the kind of person that loves frontier medicine and wants to help build up a Starbase or Starship’s Sickbay almost from the ground up. He wants to take Sickbay and make it truly his own and that of the people around him. Dorian wants to make Sickbay a place that doesn’t feel…sterile.

*Listening to music from the previous Vox hosts
*Picking up and learning new instruments, both from previous hosts and friends

Personal History Dorian Vox was the eldest son of Coren Fox and Alira, a Trill and El-Aurian diplomat working for Trill within the Federation Diplomatic Corp. Some of his earliest memories are of his parents taking him on diplomatic missions throughout the Federation. Negotiation tables, refugee relief efforts, and conferences dedicated to rebuilding communities displaced by conflict or war. Dorian’s mother, Alira, was always the listener. She’d allow for Dorian to come and sit in the background, showing him how she listened to make sure that she never missed anything. Conversely, Dorian’s father, Coren Fox, taught him that identity wasn’t always something that you inherited. It was something shared.

While Dorian was young, his parents expected him to follow in their diplomatic footsteps. Throughout primary and secondary school, they put him into classes on law and diplomatic relations. However, while he did well in those subjects, Dorian quickly found that he excelled in areas such as science, mathematics, and psychology. Dorian was quickly finding out that he was falling in love with medicine and wanting to help heal.

Not only that, but while Dorian was helping with refugee outreach with his parents, Dorian became fascinated with how individuals from various races and species healed. Both physically and psychologically, especially after something like trauma. Something that was slowly becoming ingrained in Dorian was that healing was just as much a form of diplomacy as diplomacy itself.

When Dorian was nearing the end of his secondary education, Dorian and his parents were starting to see where his path would take him. Dorian’s parents still wanted him to take the path of the diplomat over that of anything else. But, Dorian’s heart was still pulling him towards medicine, especially at Starfleet Academy. His parents weren’t happy that Dorian secretly applied to Starfleet Academy without their knowing. But, Dorian was tired of them trying to make him into their perfect little shadow when he was ready to spread his wings. He told his parents that he loved them, but he had to do this.

The next four years after graduation from secondary school were the quickest four years of Dorian’s life. Studying medicine, science, psychology, and so much more at the Academy were something that he imagined, but never could have thought was real until he got there. He graduated from the Academy in 2380 before spending the next three years at Starfleet Medical with his residency. During this time, Dorian’s parents visited him on more than one occasion. Especially to try and push him away from his decision to become a doctor.

However, with each passing visit, especially during Dorian’s residence at Starfleet Medical, they couldn’t deny that Dorian was becoming truly his own person and had a passion for the field that he had gone into During one of their visits to the campus of Starfleet Medical, Dorian’s parents apologized and said that they were wrong for what they had done and said to him in the years prior. They said it wasn’t their place to push them into a field that THEY loved so much. He had to figure it out and that’s exactly what he did.

However, once Dorian graduated from his residency and got promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, Junior Grade, something else was nagging him. He decided to head back to Trill and take a little bit of time off. Something that Dorian saw while he was back on Trill were the pools where the masters and guardians would keep the Trill symbiants. While he watched them work, Dorian felt something that he felt when he was helping refugees when he was a younger man. He felt like that was something that he needed to do.

The next day, Dorian made an appointment to see the Trill commission and see what it would take for him to join with a symbiant. He knew that there was a high likelihood that he would be rejected, either socially or medically from the program because he wasn’t fully Trill. He had seen what had happened to others who weren’t Trill when they had tried to take on a symbiant. But, he was half Trill. So, he knew there would have been a medical breakthrough by now for someone in his position.

When he walked into the first meeting, Dorian walked into a room of skeptical eyes and people who he felt didn’t want him to join. However, he talked from a place of compassion and before the meeting was over, there was a plan in place for him to start the process. No guarantees or even anything close to being joined. The next two years were some of the hardest of his life. Dorian had to undergo several treatments to even be able to take on a symbiant without rejection. The basic hardware, if you’ll call it that, was there within Dorian. All that was needed was the software to make sure that the biology between host and symbiant didn’t reject one another.

After the two year period, Dorian went in for his final board in front of the symbiant commission. During that meeting, Dorian was accepted into having a symbiant placed with him and there was already one waiting for him. The previous host for Vox, Thelan Vox, had died recently and had been following Dorian as he went through the program. He wanted to hand off Vox to Dorian personally, but wasn’t able to make it to the final board.

So, as soon as Dorian was approved, Dorian was taken back to where the transfer would happen. It didn’t take long for the prep work and before long, Dorian had become Dorian Vox. Once Dorian woke up, he felt like a different person. Dorian had become the sixth host to the Vox symbiant and one of the most interesting.

Something that both Dorian and Vox never knew was that they both came from similar backgrounds. The previous hosts for Vox were heavily involved with the scientific and medical communities, both on and off of the Trill homeworld. While their discoveries and breakthroughs weren’t renowned, they still helped to shape Dorian now that he was a joined host.

After being cleared by the board, Dorian was able to head back to Starfleet and make his way to his first true assignment after going through his residency. After getting the paperwork transferred to him, Dorian realized that he was going to be onboard the USS Hera-A, an Odyssey-Class Starship exploring parts of deep space.

For five years, Dorian remained onboard the Hera as a medical officer. He kept to himself a little bit during this time. Before long, in 2398, Dorian was transferred to the USS Europa to become the ship’s Assistant Chief Medical Officer. He had been hoping that something like this would come along, as this would allow for him to explore and get a taste of being in charge for once. While he still had to answer to the CMO, this was the step that he was hoping for. He spent another four years on the Europa before getting the call to help with Starbase Mojave, starting up their medical facilities there.
