| Physical Description | Lean, almost underfed, with slightly curly blonde hair that is pretty much always messy and a face that looks better suited to a nineteen year old than a man nearing thirty. For his wardrobe, he employs a limited color palette so that whatever he chooses to wear will match and that’s about all the thought he ever gives to his wardrobe. His quad-mates at the Academy said he had ‘sticky fingers’ – nothing larcenous but he does tend to pick up odds and ends – and he carries a PADD that he’s modified to suit his particular needs. Physiology > Weakened immune system > Scarring on his back (from an old beating) > Latent empath (he sees it as getting hunches about people) > Fast metabolism/has a hard time gaining weight (not that he tries really) > Sensitivity to intense sunlight |

Personality & Traits
| General Overview | He has a propensity for honesty, some would say brutal honesty, that, while socially challenging (not the guy to ask if that dress makes you look fat), it also reflects a clarity of thought and an unwavering commitment to truth. He's a non-conformist at heart, forging his own path, unconstrained by conventional wisdom or societal expectations (not that there were many in his home world, Myrridon Prime). He possesses a higher verbal fluency than most and a more expressive lexicon (can cuss in any number of languages). Abstract thinking allows him to conceptualize complex ideas and find connections where others see none. He excels at problem-solving, not just finding answers, but rather reframing the questions and devising novel approaches. He has an awareness of his own thought processes (metacognition) that enables him to refine and optimize intellectual strategies. His intuition is finely tuned, guiding him through complex scenarios and possesses a remarkable paradox tolerance that allows him to hold conflicting ideas in his mind simultaneously, fostering deeper understanding and innovative solutions. Though he’s refused testing (a bit of a confrontation when he hit the Academy), he’s got a genius-level intellect coupled with an eidetic memory. He works more than he breathes, or so it would seem, and he’s always got a project or three going. And yet, he’s shy and can be socially awkward. When you couple that with his tendency toward brutal honesty, it's understandable why small talk is so completely beyond him. He can be oblivious to cues that others pick up on easily – flirting for example. A woman would practically have to throw herself naked on the desk in front of him and even then, he’s likely to ask her to move. Intense emotions cause stress reactions – he shuts down, loses focus, refuses to engage. He needs time alone, away from the pressures of socialization, to recharge, to think, to create Life in small doses though he’s improved in that respect depending upon the people around him. |

| Strengths & Weaknesses | Strengths > Photographic Memory > Not afraid of failing - views setbacks are invaluable learning opportunities, refining his approaches with relentless patience > Intellectually curious, unconventional thinker and resilient > Gets hunches about people Weaknesses > Thrives on flexibility and allows his mind to wander and explore without rigid constraints. So, set routines can be problematic. Usually someone has to remind him about meetings and the like. He will never willingly remember a party. > Restless intellect. Has a hard time sleeping when there’s something ‘in his head’ that needs to work itself out. Shift crews are used to seeing him show up at all hours. > Socially awkward and shy. Also brutally honest. |

| Hobbies & Interests | > Robotics - Builds miniature robots, teaches them interesting tricks. > Develops holoprograms – generally mysteries – which he released under a pen name, Rook, to friends and coworkers > Created a replicator program that produces one-use t-shirts with witty/humorous slogans based on the individual’s interests. Originally developed for a friend, the program caught on. Bayre himself has a version (engineering/science). > Old movies – but he’ll pause it and discuss probabilities, absurdities, and has been known to do holodeck recreations to prove or disprove his hypothesis > Reading. Always non-fiction. Usually in the original language. He started speaking at six months and knew three languages by the age of four. He learns new ones for fun or because there are things he wants to learn and prefers studying in the original language rather than use a translation. > Hiking. He really likes to walk. > Code Breaking and Defeating Security Systems |
| Personal History | About Myrridon Myrridon is a neutral world that is considered a safe haven; it's the place you go when you have something you want to keep safe. Its vaults and neutral ground meeting halls are as legendary as is its security. Criminal or legitimate, if you can pay, you can hold meetings with your enemies and walk away in safety. You can store literally anything (even people) in its vaults, buried deep beneath the surface. Security of the vaults is protected by the government with a long-standing guarantee that anyone who breaks into a vault will die in one. Highly industrialized, with over-crowded cities and very little arable land. Nearly everyone has a greenhouse of some type. Meat is considered a luxury. The planet is under perpetual cloud cover with ion storms in the upper atmosphere for a full two months out of the year. Housing is prohibitively expensive; the poorest live in underground cubes that are big enough to fit a twin bed and a few shelves. Prior to the current government, Myrridon was a monarchy; the war between the crime families who now run the world and the king was brutal, leaving nearly half the planet in ruins. Some choose to live in the ruins but that’s a hard scrabble existence with many dangers; few survive for longer than a few months. About Bayre Myrridon is not a world where it's good to stand out – unless you were born into one of the eight crime families that ruled the world or you were willing to do what it took to get into one. At six months, Bayre could speak and by the time he reached his third birthday, he spoke three languages – the patois the common folk of his world spoke, Federation Standard, and Orion. He had added three additional languages by the time he’d reach six (Klingon, Cardassian, and Romulan) and was showing a strong interest in computers and holographic technology. His family was poor, living in the worst slums of the largest city on Myrridon. His mother took odd jobs (cleaning, sewing, mending, preparing meals) for those with the coin to pay while his father took on whatever honest work he could get. Those in the neighborhood knew about Bayre and as the word spread around, his mother met the Professor. It seemed like a perfect arrangement – In return for a reduced fee for her services, the Professor agreed to tutor Bayre and was more than a little surprised at how accurate the neighborhood gossip had been. The boy learned fast, asked intelligent questions, and within three years, by the time Bayre was six, both realized that the lessons were nearing an end when Bayre began correcting the Professor. In three years, the Professor had become an integral part of their lives. Through him, his father had gotten work cleaning vaults and died early in his sixth year as result of toxic exposure to something that had been spilled when the vault was emptied. His mother died suddenly, only a few months later, and the Professor offered to take Bayre and his older sister, Seraya, in. And that’s when things started to change. The Professor introduced Bayre to an old friend of his, Specs, who did security for the families, and was willing to teach the boy what he knew. While Bayre put his skills to use, Seraya, who was nowhere near her brother’s equal, made friends on the street. Because she was both fast and clever, Seraya earned a tidy bit of coin doing messenger jobs for the Logasi crime family. The siblings were drifting apart, encouraged in that regard by the Professor who had long ago figured out that Bayre Hirata was the key to a comfortable, well-funded old age. One by one, he removed whatever was in his way. Kell first because he was strong and suspicious right from the first. Lyta next because she had been planning to take the kids out of the city, out of his reach. By the time Seraya was sixteen, she had become a member of one of the eight families, the Logasi, and almost immediately moved out of the Professor’s house. Seraya became the Logasi contact with the Professor and together, they negotiated Bayre’s contracts. For a time, things worked but they neglected to take into consideration the boy’s considerable intellect. He learned, fast, and when the lessons gave way to contracts and jobs, usually with high stakes. Failure meant punishment and the first time a security system upgrade failed, leaving the system open to an opportunistic thief, Bayre was beaten and jailed. Forced to fix the problem before he could be released and returned home. He stayed in jail for a solid month. He had worked out his mistake that first night but he waited to implement it – primarily because he wanted time alone, without the Professor’s hovering, intrusive presence, or Spec’s endless probing questions, to think. When he’d come to his decision, he fixed the problem, left a well-disguised back entrance only he knew about in the code, and returned to the Professor’s house. Not his home any longer. The Professor’s. It was time to go. He tested his plan against the safeguards the Professor, Specs and even his sister had set in place to prevent anything like that from happening, made adjustments, and then tested again. It took him a full month to figure out and correct the flaws in his plan and to siphon off enough coins to pay for passage on a freighter. The day he left Myrridon, he was thirteen years old and his childhood was already ten years behind him. |

| Service Record | 2390-2394: Starfleet Academy, Engineering Major, Operations MInor Bayre was seventeen when he entered the Academy. He learned quickly and showed, within the first year, an exceptional understanding of ship’s systems. His prior experience in security systems and computerized networks, his private interests in holographic technology, robotics, and security systems, revealed a logical, organized mind and breadth of experience that was far beyond those of his peers. He was moved into an accelerated program focusing on alien technology. Bayre worked long hours and slept very little. On the other hand, Instructors realized early on his issues relating to social interactions and worked with him to develop techniques to make that aspect of his life more manageable. 2394-2400: USS Faraday, Chief Engineering Officer His first month on the USS Faraday was difficult. A twenty-one year old Chief Engineer inspired no one’s confidence and his weakness in social interactions didn’t help his case any. He ignored all of it and got to work, proving himself mission by mission to both the command staff and to his team. He worked harder than any other member of his team, said what was on his mind to everyone – including the Captain. When he missed two briefings and a formal dinner, the crew got together, without him, and decided that one member of Engineering, from each shift, would have the task of making sure he got to where he needed to be – dragging him away from projects or out of bed if necessary. They rotated the duty amongst themselves and Bayre never noticed. He fought them on the idea of attending parties though. Every … single … time. 2400-2402: Starfleet Academy, Visiting Professor After six years on the Faraday, Bayre was comfortable in his position though not as challenged as he could be. At least not since the Captain had retired and the new Captain, less experienced, had been assigned more routine tasks such as ferrying equipment/personnel and doing welfare checks on established colony worlds. As his last act in Starfleet, his Captain informed command that Bayre’s talents were being largely wasted. Starfleet listened and reassigned Bayre to the Academy where he taught for a year while a new post was found for him. 2402 - USS Mojave, Chief Engineering Officer |
